The long-awaited Sonu Sood’s starrer, Fateh, is finally on the screens, and the actor marks his debut as a director. Fateh is an action-packed thriller, in which the action hero plays the character the audience is familiar with—the never-tiring savior.
A cybercrime thriller of high stakes
Fateh Singh, a dairy farm manager turned former agent, sets out on a mission to rescue a young girl trapped in a malicious online loan scam, and what initially begins as a personal mission spirals into an explosive takedown of a sophisticated cybercrime network led by Raza (Naseeruddin Shah) and Satya Prakash (Vijay Raaz).
Along the way, Fateh meets an ethical hacker named Khushi, played by Jacqueline Fernandez, who helps him navigate the dark web and defeat the villains.
Intense action and bold storytelling
The film survives on its brutal action sequences, where Sonu Sood is seen as a one-man army against the cybercrime racket. From hand-to-hand combat to inventive fight choreography, Sood’s transformation into a deadly vigilante keeps the audience hooked. His directorial debut delivers a bold visual experience, though the exaggerated gore may not appeal to all.
Strengths and weaknesses of Sonu Sood’s Fateh
While Fateh is quite good in terms of action and intensity, it lacks emotional depth. Sonu Sood, in his vulnerable character, seems rather underwhelming. The film misses the opportunity to develop its supporting characters. Veterans like Naseeruddin Shah and Vijay Raaz deliver solid performances but are underutilized. Jacqueline Fernandez’s role as Khushi offers little innovation, with minimal chemistry alongside Sood.
The writing is weak at times, with a mixed rhythm and poorly developed backstories. However clever metaphors and dark humor do a good job of balancing the story.
Fateh is a decent first effort by Sonu Sood as a director. It’s not without flaws, but it does keep action buffs on the edge of their seats with its explosive sequences and fast-paced story. Fans of the actor’s larger-than-life persona will enjoy this adrenaline-filled ride.
