5.8 magnitude earthquake hits Afghanistan border, Strong tremors in Delhi-NCR, Kashmir

A 5.8 magnitude earthquake hit the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region on Saturday afternoon, triggering tremors that had been felt across elements of northern India, including Kashmir and Delhi-NCR. According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake befell at 12:17 PM IST at a depth of 86 km under the surface. The epicentre was located in the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region, a place responsible to seismic interest due to tectonic moves.

Light to moderate tremors had been felt in the Kashmir Valley and Delhi-NCR, prompting panic among residents. A video from Kashmir confirmed people rushing out of a constructing moments after the floor began to shake.

A nearby resident in Srinagar stated, “I felt the tremor whilst office-my chair commenced shaking. It wasn’t too light or too strong. I’m not certain if there may be been any harm, however earthquakes are usually common on this place.” Another video from Kashmir confirmed ceiling enthusiasts swaying internal homes moments after the earthquake, taking pictures the intensity of the tremors that rippled through the location.

Tremors Felt in Delhi-NCR, Kashmir

There had been no instant reports of casualties or major harm from both side of the border. An 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck the Hindu Kush area of Afghanistan early Wednesday morning, with tremors also felt in several elements of India, including Delhi-NCR, as state. The quake, which came about at a depth of 75 km, is powerful sufficient to cause major harm close to the epicentre.
