Assam is witnessing a devastating flood-like scenario after heavy rains occurs on Thursday. Floodwater gathered in numerous areas amid India Meteorological Department’s red alert warning for the third consecutive day. As per the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), as many as 5 individuals are reported died in Assam Floods.
Massive landslides occurred in the Kamrup (Metro) district, caused by torrential rain, and a total three districts and 5 Revenue Circles have been suffering from Urban Flood, PTI mentioned. Over 10 thousand peoples dwelling in Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro) and Cachar districts of Assam had been significantly affected.
Schools, Offices Closed due to Assam Floods
Due to the disastrous floodwater, one ‘ring bandh’ breached under the North Lakhimpur sales circle. National Disaster Response Force and National Disaster Response Force employees are participating in the evacuation of humans. Authorities issued orders to close schools and offices and holidays announced for government employees of Kamrup and Kamrup Metropolitan districts.

Districts on IMD’s red alert for Saturday are Chirang, Baksa, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Bajali, Tamulpur, Darrang and Udalguri. “A ‘red alert’ was issue for as many as 18 districts on Friday, with the state facing a ‘strange situation’ because of Assam Floods because of huge cloud cover over several components of the northeast, PTI said.
Flight operations at Guwahati airport affected on Friday and several airlines issued a advisory. IndiGo’s travel advisory said, “As monsoon showers sweep throughout the jap coast, intermittent heavy rains may also cause slight delays in flight operations.”
