IMD issues Karnataka Red Alert
Karnataka has been witnessing heavy downpours for the past three days. Thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds hit numerous areas overdue Sunday night time, causing severe waterlogging, property damage, and site visitors jams. In Bengaluru, regions like Silk Board Junction, Hosur Road, and BTM Layout have been the various worst affected, with roads submerged and cars stranded.
According to reports, 5 peoples have died in rain-related incidents across Karnataka. In Bengaluru, 3 peoples lost their lives in the closing 36 hours. Two men had been electrocuted at an apartment in NS Palya, near BTM second Stage. One of the victim, 63-year-old Manmoham Kamath, was trying to pump out rainwater from his house while a short circuit happened, leading to his loss of life.
Political slugfest
Even after Karnataka Red Alert issue by IMD, the rain conditions are not managed currently. Karnataka BJP slammed the ruling Congress for organising ‘Sadhana Samavesha’ event to celebrate the party years in office, in Vijayanagara district while Bengaluru was reeling under intense flooding due to relentless rains considering that Sunday night time.
Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly R Ashoka said, “There is a flood situation in Bengaluru and somewhere else in Karnataka. We are seeing Bengaluru being submerged in rains. People are struggling. But the ruling Congress leaders, as opposed to handling the condition, have gone to Ballari to celebrate their two years in the government.”
