India won 3 gold medals and secured the 7th position among 110 taking part international locations at the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2025. With a total number of six medals, 3 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze, the Indian team has proved its potential in international Mathematical Olympiad.
India Team Winning 6 Medals in International Mathematical Olympiad
This year medal-succeed team consisted of Kanav Talwar, Aarav Gupta, and Adhitya Mangudy (gold medallists), Abel George Mathew and Aadish Jain (silver), and Archit Manas (bronze).
The team also make report cumulative score of 193 out of 252, the best ever by India in its 35 appearances on the IMO on account that debuting in 1989.
Selection and training for International Mathematical Olympiad
The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, is the nodal organization that organising India’s participation in international mathematical Olympiads. It manage the national level tests, education camps, and guidance strategies for team players.
The 2025 delegation was led by Professor Shanta Laishram from ISI Delhi, with Dr Mainak Ghosh from ISI Bengaluru serving as Deputy Leader. The team also includes observers: Atul Shatavart Nadig, currently a BS scholar at MIT, USA, and Dr Rijul Saini.
According to the professional statement from HBCSE, India has seen a constant rise in performance at the IMO over the past few years. This is the second time India has won 3 gold medals (the first was in 1998) and third time, putting 7th, matching its rank from 1998 and 2001.
