It’s always easier to blame others. For a long time, men relied on that comfort. Not too long ago, if a woman couldn’t conceive, all the blame fell on her. She faced shame, whispers, and judgment, while educated, supposedly progressive men stayed silent, fully aware that infertility could easily stem from their own bodies. But that truth was rarely discussed; it was tucked away to avoid disturbing their view of masculinity. Slowly but surely, things are changing. Men Are Preparing for Pregnancy. They are stepping up. How?
They are doing what women have long done to prepare for healthy pregnancies: managing their diet, educating themselves, and developing healthier habits that support conception and fetal health.
And they are speaking out. Many share their experiences through vlogs and social media to educate other men who still think fertility, conception, and fetal health are solely a woman’s responsibility.
Men Are Preparing for Pregnancy: Fertility crisis
Not many people are discussing the male fertility crisis. The statistics are alarming.
- A major meta-analysis found that sperm counts in Western countries fell by more than 50% between 1973 and 2011. A more recent 2022 analysis shows this decline is now affecting Asia, Africa, and Central and South America, not just the West.
- Researchers attribute this decline to changes in diet, decreased physical activity, increased stress, and greater exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals found in plastics, pesticides, and everyday household products.
- In India, male infertility accounts for about 40–50% of infertility cases, with more cases reported among younger men.
What’s changing?
There has been a noticeable shift, and open conversations on social media reflect this. Men are now working alongside their partners to make pregnancy healthier and more fair, which is a refreshing change.
Dr. Mahesh Koregol, National Strategy Group Director and Senior Clinical Director (Fertility Specialist) at Nova IVF Fertility in Koramangala, Bengaluru, notes that the change in male behavior has been clear.
