Bengaluru Police issues security guidelines for New Year celebrations

The Bengaluru Police has taken some very extensive measures to ensure proper security during the New Year celebrations. It includes a ban on whistling and mandatory wearing of masks in public places. Key locations, including MG Road, Brigade Road, and Koramangala, will face enhanced surveillance along with increased police presence as the city gears up to usher in 2025.

Security Arrangements

More than 2,000 police personnel will be deployed on MG Road, which attracts more than a lakh of revelers every year. Brigade Road, Church Street, Indiranagar, HSR Layout, and Koramangala have been decorated with special lighting for the festival. For Koramangala alone, 1,000 extra personnel will be deployed to keep the public safe.

A mini control room has been set up to monitor live CCTV footage from 150 newly installed cameras across sensitive areas. Additionally, flyovers will remain closed to prevent any untoward incidents. Metro and bus services from MG Road will operate until 2 a.m., offering extended travel options for late-night celebrations.

Focus on Women’s Security on New Year Celebrations

Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has issued a notification declaring a Rs 500 fine for any person found harassing women, with offenders being handed over to the police. In order to provide safety, security personnel will be deployed in every metro coach.

Women’s protection will be ensured by the Rani Chennamma Special Squad. The city has twelve safety islands that provide instant help to people in distress. The watchtowers and healthcare centers will be in place to make the public safe during the festivities.

Lessons from the Past

Bengaluru has taken stringent security measures after some distressing incidents in 2017, when several women were allegedly harassed on MG Road amidst massive crowds. This year, the police are determined to avoid such instances with strict measures and increased vigilance.

The city is preparing for the celebrations, and public order and safety will be the focus to enjoy the New Year celebrations.
