Union Budget 2025 has been called a “force multiplier” and a “people’s budget” by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is because it reflects the government’s commitment to fulfilling the aspirations of 140 crore Indians. The focus of the budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is savings, investments, and consumption towards India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
This is the budget of aspirations of 140 crore Indians. It fulfills the dreams of every Indian and opens new opportunities for the youth. The common citizen is going to drive the mission of Viksit Bharat,” PM Modi said. He underlined the Budget’s focus on empowering the middle class and fostering economic growth.
Why PM Modi Calls Budget 2025 “Force Multiplier” and “People’s Budget”?
The most notable announcement is the exemption of income tax for individuals who earn up to ₹12 lakh per annum. For salaried taxpayers, this amount has been increased to ₹12.75 lakh with standard deductions. PM Modi pointed out that this would greatly benefit the middle class and young professionals entering the workforce.
“In this budget, all income up to ₹12 lakh per annum has been made tax-free. For all income groups, taxes have been reduced. It will hugely benefit our middle class and provide opportunities for those who have recently joined the workforce,” he said.
The government has reportedly estimated that the tax reforms have created a revenue loss of ₹1 lakh crore. It reflects its commitment to putting more money in the hands of citizens.
Revolutionizing Agriculture and Rural Economy
PM Modi said that the Budget measures will give a new revolution to rural India. The Kisan Credit Card limit has been increased to ₹5 lakh, which will give more flexibility to farmers.
The announcements made for farmers in the Budget will become the basis of a new revolution in the agriculture sector and the entire rural economy,” said PM Modi. He countered claims by the Opposition that the Budget overlooked farmer demands.
Empowering Gig Workers and Entrepreneurs
In a nod to the New Age economy, the Budget introduces significant measures for gig workers, such as their registration on the e-Shram portal to access health services. Further, a loan scheme of up to ₹2 crore without collateral has been introduced for SC, ST, and women entrepreneurs to foster inclusivity and innovation.
For the first time, gig workers will be registered on the e-Shram portal, enabling them to access health services. This Budget also supports aspiring entrepreneurs from marginalized communities,” PM Modi said.
Manufacturing and Tourism Getting a Boost
The Budget plans to strengthen the manufacturing sector of India. PM Modi stated the goal is “to let Indian products shine across the world.” Shipbuilding and hotels have also been given the status of infrastructure, sectors having a high potential for employment.
“By providing infrastructure status to shipbuilding and hotels, we are not only giving employment a boost but also setting in place the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission. Hotels at 50 key tourist destinations will further energize the hospitality sector,” PM Modi added.
Preserving India’s Knowledge Tradition
The ‘Gyan Bharat Mission’ is for preserving one crore manuscripts and for establishing a National Digital Repository, inspired by the rich knowledge traditions of India. “Technology will be used to its fullest extent to safeguard our heritage,” PM Modi said while stressing the Budget for All.
PM Modi ends by calling this Budget “Janta Janardan’s Budget” which always focuses on common citizens. He said,
“Budgets very often focus upon filling the treasuries of the country; this Budget goes to fill in people’s pockets and increase saving.”
Budget 2025, with its focus areas on inclusiveness, innovation, and growth, is setting the stage for India to become a powerful economic force all over the globe.
