Starting the session from 31 January until 4 April, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the eighth consecutive Union Budget on February 1. During this much-talked-about Budget Session, very important decisions shaping the country’s economic direction for the coming year are expected. Union Budget Session 2025 will thus highlight a crucial event that will take place.

Who will address Union Budget Session 2025?

As per the convention, the session will begin with an address by President Droupadi Murmu to a joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on January 31. The session will be followed by the presentation of the Economic Survey, which provides insight into the country’s economic performance and lays out projections for the year ahead.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed the schedule on social media by saying, “The Hon’ble President will address the joint sitting of both Houses on January 31 at 11:00 AM in the Lok Sabha Chamber. The Union Budget 2025-26 will be presented on February 1.

Key Dates

The first half of the session will cover nine sittings between January 31 and February 13, where discussions will take place on several issues, including the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address presented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the speech by Finance Minister Sitharaman, detailing the provisions in the Budget.

The two Houses will then go into recess from 13 February to 10 March. During this time, the parliamentary committees would scrutinize and present reports on the Demands for Grants of different ministries and departments. In its second phase, the Budget discussion will be completed, including voting on grants, on 10 March. The session would conclude on April 4 with a total of 27 sittings.

This year’s Union Budget Session 2025 is highly crucial, in which the government is expected to address the central economic concerns in the form of tax reforms, middle-class incentives, and a lot more.
