Delhi Govt Opens 100 Atal Canteens Today, Meals At Just Rs 5

The Delhi Govt launch 100 Atal Canteens across the national capital on Thursday. Meals offered at just Rs 5, in celebration of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birth anniversary.

100 Atal Canteens Opened Today by Delhi Govt

This initiative, a key promise in the BJP’s Delhi election manifesto, aims to provide affordable and nutritious food to residents.Delhi Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood announced the scheme and call it an important step towards food security.

The canteens will primarily serve daily wage workers, laborers, and low-income families who often struggle to afford regular meals. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the scheme focuses on providing food with dignity. She said, “Atal Canteen become the soul of Delhi, a place where no one should have to sleep hungry,” highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting all citizens.

Rs 5 per meal, affordable nutritious food for 1000 people daily

Each Atal Canteen serve two meals a day, including dal and rice, roti and vegetables, and expected to serve nearly 1,000 people daily. The government will provide substantial subsidies to keep the price fixed at Rs 5 per meal, according to officials.

Delhi Govt sources noted that an inter-departmental committee has finalized the locations, menus, and operational guidelines for the first phase, which will cover the 100 canteens. The goal is to ensure consistency and quality from the start.

To maintain transparency and prevent issues, meals distributed through a digital token system rather than manual coupons. CCTV cameras installed at all canteens, and real-time monitoring will occur via the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board’s digital platform.
