Swiggyhas launched a new app for affordable food ordering as it competes with Zepto Cafe and Rapido’s Ownly. The app, called Toing, is currently available in select areas of Pune, including Kothrud, Hinjewadi, Wakad, Aundh, and Pimple Saudagar. The orders range from ₹100 to ₹150.
“It’s all about ‘affordability first,’” one source said on the condition of anonymity due to the confidential nature of the information. “It doesn’t include snacks, but think of it as food for one that can be eaten at a desk—mini food, burgers, sandwiches, cakes, and desserts.”
Toing vs ₹99 Store vs Snacc
Swiggy’s Toing app feature restaurants that offer food in the ₹100 to ₹150 range. The concept is similar to the ₹99 Store on the main app, but Toing will eventually become a standalone app like Instamart. It won’t compete with Snacc, Swiggy’s other app that provides “canteen-like” food in only 10 minutes.
Rapido’s Ownly, Zepto Cafe
Toing is currently available only in Pune. It competes with Zepto Cafe, which serves sandwiches, cold coffees, and single-serving food for the workplace. However, Toing sources its food from real restaurants, unlike Zepto Cafe, which uses cloud kitchens.
What about Ownly, which is run by Rapido and in which Swiggy has a stake? The launch of Toing comes shortly after source reported that Swiggy plans to sell its entire stake in Rapido for about ₹2,500 crore. “Many of the new offerings from Swiggy will aim to ensure that competitors do not find an easy opportunity,” said Sriharsha Majety, co-founder and CEO of Swiggy, during the company’s latest earnings call.
