Chhattisgarh Hosts First-Ever Khelo India Tribal Games Starting Today

It is the first time when the Chhattisgarh state host the Khelo India Tribal Games (KITG). This event mark significantly in India’s sports calendar. Games will take place in three culturally rich cities, Jagdalpur, Surguja and Raipur.

First-Ever Khelo India Tribal Games in Chhattisgarh

The KITG 2026 event is expected to feature over 2,300 athletes and 3,700 participants. With more than 32% of its population belonging to tribal communities and a rich heritage of indigenous cultures, traditions, and athletic excellence, Chhattisgarh is not just a host but a natural home for these Games. From the plains of Raipur to the vibrant tribal landscapes of Bastar and the highlands of Ambikapur, sport has always played a key role in daily life, influenced by tradition, resilience, and community.

What does the Games includes?

The Games will include a total of nine sports across two categories:

  • 7 Competitive Sports: The competitions will showcase a variety of disciplines, including Archery, Athletics, Football, Hockey, Swimming, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Mallakhamb, and Kabaddi. These events will be held at key venues in Chhattisgarh.
  • Swimming events will occur at the International Swimming Pool in Raipur, while Weightlifting competitions are set for the Open Ground at Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University.
  • Athletics events will be hosted at Krida Parisar in Dharampura, Jagdalpur.
  • Wrestling and Mallakhamb competitions held at Gandhi Stadium in Surguja.
  • Kabaddi matches are scheduled for the Balbir Singh Juneja Indoor Stadium in Raipur.
