Covid-19 cases have been increasing in country over the last few weeks. Concerns have accelerated after new variants were detected, as per data from the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (Insacog).
The variants NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 had been detected in India currently. One case of NB.1.8.1 was observed in Tamil Nadu in April, even as four cases of LF.7 were detected in May.
WHO Detects Covid-19 New Variants
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has labeled each LF.7 and NB.1.8 subvariants as Variants Under Monitoring (VUMs), not as Variants of Concern (VOCs) or Variants of Interest (VOIs). However, these variants are reportedly behind the surge in COVID-19 cases in China and other parts of Asia.
In India, Kerala has stated the high number of cases, with 273 active infections in May. Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra have also said a rise in cases. In Karnataka, 5 new Covid-19 cases had been mentioned on Saturday, bringing the full number of active cases in the state to 38.
Critical Cases of Corona Admitted in Hospital
Bengaluru also observed a Covid-related death. An 84-year-old patient with co-morbidities died at Aster Hospital in Whitefield after testing samples on May 17. A 9-month-old baby boy in Bengaluru was also diagnosed with Corona on Thursday. He was first admitted to a personal clinic and later shifted to Vani Vilas Hospital in Kalasipalya.
In response to the increasing cases, the Karnataka government has issued an advisory. It urges people with co-morbidities to wear face masks in crowded locations and use hand sanitizer.
Delhi observe 23 new COVID-19 cases as of Thursday. The government have requested people not to panic and stated it is absolutely organized to address the state of affairs.
