The MP government confirmed 15 deaths in Bhagirathpura, Indore due to contaminated water on Thursday. This announcement came as the state submitted a new status report to the high court regarding the situation.
Previously, the government reported that at least 10 people had died from water contamination in the area. The latest report acknowledged that the Epidemiological investigation report from the probe committee indicated that the epidemic began on December 24. Earlier, the state had learned about the issue on December 29.
Contaminated water kills 15 in Indore, cause major health issues
According to advocate Manish Yadav, who represents one of the petitioners, the chief secretary and advocate general informed the court that 15 deaths linked to contaminated water, while the remaining 8 deaths due to other health issues. Anurag Jain noted that the interim directions outlined in the order dated January 9 followed, and actions taken detailed in the report. The status reports from the state government and IMC also submitted.
The Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh high court had ordered the state government on January 6 to file a new status report regarding the deaths of at least 10 people due to contaminated water supply. The court described the earlier report submitted on January 2 as “insensitive.”
