A man posing as a parrot astrologer has arrested for cheating an Income Tax officer and taking gold and silver worth over Rs 20 lakh. The Bharathinagar police recovered a large part of the stolen goods after a thorough investigation. According to the police, the complainant, who lives in Shivan Chetty Garden near Bharathinagar Police Station in Bengaluru, reported that he was approached by the accused near Sri Circle.

The accused, identified as 59-year-old Shekar, convinced the officer he could predict his future by reading his face and offered to perform special rituals.
At first, the accused took Rs 50,000 from the complainant. He later contacted him again, saying a grand ritual needed for career growth, transfer, and overall life improvement. The accused also instilled fear by warning of negative consequences if the rituals not performed. He then collected gold ornaments weighing 194 grams and about 1.3 kilograms of silver, promising to return them after the rituals.
Case of 20 lakh fraud
However, when the complainant asked for his valuables back, the accused allegedly threatened him. Based on the complaint, a cheating case opened at Bharathinagar Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, including Sections 316(2), 318(4), 351(2), and 352.
During the investigation, police gathered reliable information and arrested the accused near Cantonment Railway Station. When interrogated, he confessed to committing the crime to make easy money.
He taken to court and placed in police custody for five days. After sustained questioning, the accused revealed that he had sold the stolen gold and silver at a jewelry shop in Halasuru.
