Rajya Sabha MP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Raghav Chadha welcomed the Centre’s decision to stop 10-minute deliveries on Tuesday. It was a significant victory for gig workers who have been protesting their work and pay conditions.
In a post on X, Chadha said, “Satyamev Jayate. Together, we have won.” He thanked all citizens who supported “the side of human life, safety and dignity.” He assured gig workers of his and the people’s backing.
Raghav Chadha express Gratitude towards delivery boys
He also expressed his gratitude to the Centre for its “timely, decisive, and compassionate intervention in enforcing the removal of the ’10-minute delivery’ branding from quick-commerce platforms.” He noted, “When ’10 minutes’ printed on a rider’s t-shirt, jacket, or bag, and a timer runs on the customer’s screen, the pressure is real, constant, and dangerous.”
Chadha’s message followed Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya’s request for major food delivery and quick-commerce platforms to eliminate ’10-minute’ delivery time promises. The ministry discussed this with officials from Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy, and Zomato. The platforms advised to remove strict delivery deadlines from their services and marketing materials to protect delivery workers’ safety.
Stops 10-Minute Delivery Services
He explained, “When there is a promise of 10-minute delivery, and a timer is running on the customer’s mobile screen, the promise feels very real, constant, and dangerous. It increases the mental and physical toll on the delivery boys. Dangerous driving puts their lives at risk, as well as the lives of others on the road.”
He emphasized that while there is support for industry, business, startups, and innovation, exploitation can never be accepted. Raghav Chadha backed the gig workers’ demands for fair pay, better working conditions, and social security. On Monday, he released a video where he wore a Blinkit uniform and accompanied a delivery rider to complete an order. Last year, on December 31, he spent New Year’s Eve with gig workers, many of whom participated in a nationwide strike.
