A new scam found at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam when 100% Polyester Dupattas Sold as Silk. The officials found significant irregularities in the purchase of silk dupattas over a ten-year period from 2015 to 2025.
After the contaminated laddu controversy and the Parakamani case, officials discovered that fake silk dupattas supplied even though they billed as a 100 % polyester-silk mix. The scam estimated to cost over Rs 54 crore.
100% Polyester Dupattas Sold as Silk at Rs 54 crore
According to officials, a contractor provided around 15,000 dupattas at Rs 1,389 each while claiming they were silk. Tests sent to two laboratories, including the Central Silk Board, confirmed that the dupattas made of polyester, not silk.
Responding to the Pattu Vastralu scam, TTD Chairman BR Naidu said, “We have come to know that there were a few discrepancies in the purchasing department. Taking note of this, we have handed over the investigation to the ACB.”
Laddu scandal also found at temple
The scandal involving the sacred Tirupati laddu prasadam emerged in September 2024. The Andhra Pradesh CM claimed that the laddus distributed at the temple might contain animal fat or adulterated ghee instead of pure cow ghee.
In response, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed, under the guidance of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), to investigate the supply chain and quality of ghee provided to TTD.
The Parakamani case dates back to April 29, 2023, when a clerk at a temple-associated mutt near Tirumala, CV Ravi Kumar, was caught stealing donations made by devotees into the “Srivari Hundi” donation box. According to prosecutors, this theft involved money collected as offerings at the temple.
