At least eleven people died and 40 others were injured after two buses collided head-on near Tirupattur in Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu, according to Sivaganga district SP Siva Prasad.
Media reports shows that both buses are government vehicles. One was travelling from Tiruppur to Karaikudi, while the other was headed to Dindigul from Karaikudi. The head-on collision occurred near Thirupathur, resulting in the deaths of at least 11 individuals.
Injured in Tamil Nadu bus accident rushed to hospital
Locals rushed to help the injured, and the police were notified. The victims were taken to a government hospital in Sivagangai. Officials suspect that the death toll may rise, as the condition of some passengers remains critical.
This is the second accident in a week that has shaken the southern state. Two private buses collided head-on near Idaikal in the Tenkasi district on November 24, killing six people, including five women, and injuring 56 others.
Speeding buses collide with each other
One of the buses was travelling from Madurai to Senkottai, while the other was headed to Kovilpatti from Tenkasi. Police said that the Tamil Nadu accident happened due to speeding by one of the bus drivers.
In another tragic road accident, five members of a family died instantly when their tempo collided with a Roadways bus near Zero Point on the Delhi-Lucknow Highway in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. Six others were seriously injured and were taken to the district hospital.
