Several opposition parties have joined a 12-hour Odisha Bandh on Thursday, July 17. It continue for 12 hours to protest on Student Suicide after alleged sexual harassment by a professor.
The bandh was called by 8 Opposition events in Odisha, stressful justice for the student. The bandh was also in city in some places, includes Balasore, however it was shorter in duration. It will continue in area till 6pm Thursday.
Markets, colleges, companies closed on Odisha Bandh
Markets, companies, and colleges will stay closed, and roads are expected to be blocked during bandh and cars movement has been prohibited. However, critical healthcare services like pharmacies, ambulance services, etc are operate as usual.
While there is no official statement that government offices and banks can be closed, decreased staffs may occurs. Similarly, trains are also face delays due to the bandh because protests and marches are expected for day.
Road Blocked, Protests in Balasore
Balasore cooperate well with bandh as Biju Janata Dal (BJD) people in city, blocking roads and burning tyres. According to reports, they also held protests in Jaleswar, Basta, Soro, Baliapal and Bhograi for the reason that Odisha Bandh was imposed early in the morning.
Traffic in Balasore has also been managed, police said. “People are very irritated over the denial of justice to the student who set herself on fire and died,” said BJD chief Debi Prasad Mishra. He also vowed that his party will continue to agitate across Odisha “till the BJP government announce judicial probe into the incident”.
