15 year-old Akash Patni, who was sleeping under a tree close to his family’s tea stall died in Air India’s flight crash on Thursday. “We have had the tea cart from 30 years. At the time of incident, it was business as usual for my mom and brother. I received a call at 1.30pm informing about the incident,” said Akash. Kalpesh’s aunt said that Akash and his mother Sita, 40, had been across the tea cart when the plane hit the floor.

On hearing the loud thud, Sita managed to break out but in the spur of the moment didn’t recognise Akash became left behind.
“She literally came out alive from the fireball but Akash wasn’t as lucky,” Kalpesh said, adding, “she get burn injuries and admitted on the Civil Hospital’s ICU.”

“We have been informed that we able to take my brother’s body only after days, but we don’t understand the reason for this late handover. There’s no information coming in,” Kalpesh said.
Akash Patni running the tea stall from years and used to stay in a slum cluster, which demolished by Ahmedabad municipal agency around three months ago for expansion of BJ Medical Hospital campus. “As it was a vacant plant, every now and then childrens who used to stay in the slum cluster used to come back there to play. At the time of crash, a few kids were playing there and might have died,” said locals, who used to as soon as stay in the slum cluster.
