Terrorists killed the 2 Assam Rifles Soldiers in Manipur
The terrorists fired at the paramilitary forces’ Tata 407 vehicle while it was traveling from the Patsoi company base to the Nambol base at 5:50 pm. This is the same road that Prime Minister Narendra Modi used during his recent visit to Manipur a week ago.
The ambush site is about 8 km from Imphal Airport, along the road to Churachandpur. An official statement noted, “In the general area of Nambol Sabal Leikai, the column ambushed by unidentified terrorists on the Highway in the denotified area of Manipur. In the ensuing action, two personnel of the Assam Rifles martyred and five injured.”
The Assam Rifles unit was moving on NH-2 during the night when the ambush occurred, the statement added. As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Search operations are ongoing to catch the armed men involved in this incident.
9 Meitei terrorist groups banned
The Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) applies to the entire state of Manipur, except in 13 police station areas across five districts in the valley region. Nambol is in the Bishnupur district, that not covered by AFSPA. AFSPA last extended in March 2025 for six months and reviewed again at the end of this month.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs’ list of banned organizations, there are nine banned Meitei terrorist groups in Manipur. They have targeted the Assam Rifles in the past, including the killing of Colonel Viplav Tripathi, his wife, and son in an ambush in Churachandpur district in November 2021.
