A 20-year-old student was found dead in his hostel room at the BITS Pilani Goa. The second-year Physics student, Rishi Nair, was found dead on his bed after authorities forced open his door around 10:45 am. He had not responded to calls on his mobile phone. Officials are currently determining the cause of death.
5th suicide case in BITS Pilani Goa in 10 months
This incident marks the fifth such case on campus since December 2024. Previous cases involved students Om Priyan Singh (December 2024), Atharv Desai (March 2025), Krishna Kasera (May 2025), and Kushagra Jain (August 2025), who also found dead in their hostel rooms.
CM Pramod Sawant announced that a committee, led by the collector formed to investigate these deaths. He stated that the government will take further action after receiving the committee’s report. “Such incidents are unfortunate and should not happen again. The state government will take further steps after receiving the Collector’s report,” the Chief Minister said.
Cause of death remain unknown
The BITS Pilani Goa campus confirmed Nair’s death in a statement. He had transferred from the Hyderabad campus. The statement mentioned that Nair had been receiving clinical treatment for a personal health issue and that his parents had moved to Goa to support him.
“It is with deep sorrow that we confirm the tragic death of our student, Mr. Rishi Nair, a second-year student in Physics who recently transferred from our Hyderabad campus for one semester. Our community shaken by this tragic event. We understand he had been bravely managing a personal health challenge and undergoing clinical treatment recently. His parents also moved to Goa to support him in his studies for one semester,” the statement read. The university expressed its condolences and stated it is cooperating with the police investigation.
