On Tuesday Morning, the 5.1 magnitude Kolkata earthquake hit the Bay of Bengal. The tremors felt in Kolkata and various parts of West Bengal. NCS reports that the quake occurred at 6:10 am. The India Meteorological Department official told the news agency that an earthquake was recorded near Puri in Odisha. It was a depth of 91 km in the Bay of Bengal, the official said.

The Earthquake was recorded at latitude 19.52 N and longitude 88.55 E, officials said. It causes panic among residents of Kolkata. No damage reports have come yet. NCS posted on X, “EQ of M: 5.1, On: 25/02/2025 06:10:25 IST, Lat: 19.52 N, Long: 88.55 E, Depth: 91 Km, Location: Bay of Bengal.”

While it’s not as prone to quakes as places like Northeast India, the Himalayas, or Gujarat, Earthquake hit the city from time to time. It occurs due to seismic activity in nearby areas like the Bay of Bengal, Nepal, or North-East India instead of from faults directly in Kolkata.
