At least eight women lost their lives, and six others were injured in a stampede at the Sheetla Mata Temple in the Maghra area of Nalanda district, Bihar, on Tuesday morning. A senior officer reported that the incident occurred due to a large crowd of devotees.
Bihar Sharif Assistant Superintendent of Police Noorul Haque told, “At least eight women died in the stampede at Sheetala Mata temple on Tuesday morning. Police personnel and district administration officials have arrived at the scene, and rescue work is ongoing.”

The situation near the temple became chaotic after a sudden rumor caused panic among the crowd. This led to a rush that quickly escalated into a stampede-like situation. Several people fell, resulting in the deaths of at least eight women and multiple injuries. Those injured were taken to a government hospital in Bihar Sharif, where they are receiving treatment.
Rescue operations starts
Local residents, along with police and administrative authorities, participated in rescue efforts and helped evacuate the victims. Lalit Kumar, a local resident, told, “It is Mahavir Jayanti and Tuesday today, so there was a huge crowd. The barricades broke, and suddenly a stampede occurred. People are saying that there was no police present.”
Sahil Raj was suffered after losing his mother in the stampede at the Maghra Shitla Mata Mela. He told, “I could not even see my mother for the last time. There were no proper arrangements at Sheetla Mata Temple during the Mela.”
