Heavy rainfall in Ahmedabad caused severe waterlogging in several parts of Bavla. It turns residential areas into waterlogged zones and cause public outrage. Swagat and Ratnadip societies have been some of the worst affected, with rainwater getting into houses and disrupting daily life.
The severe downpour left Bavla town searching like an island. Water entered houses and bungalows, stranding vehicles and submerging household systems. Residents, including women and childrens, have been forced to use tractors and other makeshift approaches. Daily life came to a halt, without a on-the-spot drainage guide from the government.
Public anger against officials and MLA in Ahmedabad
When BJP MLA Kanu Patel of the Sanand-Bavla constituency arrived with officials to assess the scenario, he was met with public anger. Locals stopped his convoy and pressured him to stroll through knee-deep water, giving traumatic answers. Residents accused him of ignoring infrastructure needs, in particular drainage, despite repeated representations through the years.
Protestors blocked the highways
The underpass built at a value of crores on the Dholka-Bavla Road was also flooded, revealing the absence of a drainage system. Angry over the lack of action, citizens blocked the toll road and warned of protests in Ahmedabad. Some women even threatened self-immolation if water did not run out in 20 hours.
