Air India flight diverted to Canada after a bomb threat, lands safely at Iqaluit Airport

In a recent turn of political events, the flight operated by Air India, was diverted to Canada after a bomb threat.

Air India Delhi to Chicago flight AI 127 returned to Canada due to this massive security threat. It has landed safely in Canada at Iqaluit Airport as a precaution. A security threat was received from an unverified social media handle. Four to seven planes were included in the bomb threat messages issued on Tuesday. The planes threatened included Air India, Air India Express, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air.

Air India Express flight (IX765) was flying from Jaipur to Bengaluru with a stopover at Ayodhya. SpiceJet flight (SG116) was flying from Darbhanga to Mumbai. Akasa Air flight (QP 1373) was flying from Siliguri to Bengaluru. Security agencies go ahead and activate counter-terrorist drills on receiving the bomb threat.

Air India’s flight from Delhi to Chicago was diverted for extra security check-ups. The passengers and aircraft were re-screened based on the security protocols. Air India said the airport agencies supported the passengers in their waiting time. SpiceJet and Akasa Air flew into the grounds safely. The security checks had been done on the Air India Express aircraft at Ayodhya Airport.

It came from an X handle – an old Twitter handle. The threats resulted in a delay at multiple airports because their security measures had to be taken. Air India released a statement in relation to the incident. The airline maintained that it treats all threats seriously, no matter how many times hoaxes have occurred in the past. Air India apologized for the time lost due to the threats.

One such local airlines Air India, has had to face several threats recently. Thus far, all those previous threats have been identified as hoaxes. The airline has asserted that it is dedicated to ensuring that passengers are safe.

The airline is working with the authorities to identify who made the threat and will make sure responsible people will be held accountable for their actions. Air India is planning to file a legal suit against those responsible for causing damage with the threat.

The safety measures went alongside the coordinated efforts in ensuring the security. Iqaluit Airport, in Canada had reportedly taken the diverted flight for security re-screening. According to reports, Indian security agencies are said to have been in the forefront of handling the threats and their sessions at various airports. The day saw delay and disruptions, but no concrete threat materialized.
