Famous filmmaker Satyajit Ray ancestral home in Dhaka is demolished by Bangladeshi government. The century-old property in Dhaka’s Horikishore Ray Chowdhury Road belonged to Ray’s grandfather, the famous litterateur Upendra Kishore Ray Chowdhury. Banerjee said that demolition works at the historic assets has already starts.

“The Ray family is one of the main bearers and providers of Bengali subculture. Upendra Kishore is a pillar of Bengal’s homes. Therefore, I consider this house is tied to the cultural data of Bengal,” the Chief Minister said.
She also appealed to the Mohammad Yunus government in Bangladesh, and all the peoples of country to take steps to keep this ancestral house.” Banerjee also advised the Indian government to interfere in matter.
Upendra Kishore Ray Chowdhury’s house, a great archaeological landmark was used because the Mymensingh Children’s Academy but had reportedly fallen into disrepair after years of overlook by government. It’s being demolished to make way for a new semi-concrete structure.
The ancestral House come under Government Property
According to the Bangladesh Department of Archaeology, the Satyajit Ray ancestral house was built more than a century ago. After the partition of 1947, the property came under government possession.
“The house has been left deserted for 10 years. Shishu Academy sports were working from a rented space,” said Md Mehedi Zaman, Dhaka’s Children Affairs Officer. A semi-concrete building with numerous rooms might be built to start academy sports, he said.
When requested why one of these historically building was demolished, the official said the building posed a critical risk for childrens, when they acquire at the compound.
