Inmates seen using mobile phones, watching television, and even accessing streaming platforms like Netflix. In one part of the video, a group of inmates casually discusses an upcoming Indian Premier League match, with one confidently stating that “this time the cup is ours.”
Sources say the video recorded on March 27 by inmates who were in the jail for over two and a half years for a murder case. Investigators think the footage secretly shared with people outside the jail, leading to its rapid spread to the public.
Mobile phones hidden in underground pipeline
Initial findings shows that mobile phones hidden in an underground pipeline area near the toilet block, allowing inmates to avoid routine checks. This method indicates a possible pattern of organized concealment rather than just a one-time violation.
Officials have also expressed concerns about possible collusion among the ground staff, suspecting that internal involvement may have allowed this breach. Additionally, authorities are looking into whether this incident is part of a deliberate effort to damage the reputation of Alok Kumar, the Director General of Police for Prisons and Correctional Services.
