Bihar, an unfortunate incident happened whereby a fresh college girl succumbed to a monkey attack which is further documented

In the Siwan district of Bihar, an unfortunate incident happened whereby a fresh college girl succumbed to a monkey attack which is further documented. The rooftop where the victim, Priya Kumar, was studying was attacked by the aggressive animals who trapped her, terrified by the situation and without the possibility to run away.

According to local reports, Priya’s neighbors urged her to flee toward the stairs, but the troop’s aggressive behavior left her paralyzed with fear. Unsuccessfully, on a dreadful day, one of the monkeys shoved her off the roof. Priya incurred serious trauma resulting from the fall including severe head injury and trauma to other body parts.

Her family immediately rushed her to Siwan Sadar Hospital for treatment, but doctors declared her dead upon arrival. The grieving family later declined to conduct a post-mortem examination.

Growing Concerns Over Animal Attacks as Monkey Throws College Girl from Roof in Bihar

This event is one of many such frightening monkey-related accidents in India. Similar cases have been reported across the country, including a 2022 incident in Karnataka where a woman died after a monkey dislodged a cement statue, which fell on her. Another case last year involved a railway staffer and a child being attacked by monkeys in Mumbai.

Increased risk of monkey bites created a vulnerability for many urban and semi-urban residents of which many are now afraid and are demanding stronger actions from authorities on how to control the aggressive population of monkeys in cities and semi-urban surroundings.

Need for Action

Although monkey attacks are nothing new, the frequency and the impact thereof are cause for concern about human-wildlife conflict. Experts and ecologists advise a compromise between conservation measures and public risk.
