Bihar to Set Up Disaster Training Centres Across 20 Districts to Boost Emergency Response

The Bihar government announced plans to build district-level Emergency Response Facility-cum-Training Centres (ERF-TCs) in 20 more districts. This effort aims to improve rescue operations and disaster readiness across the state. Officials report that work has finished in 17 districts during the first phase, while construction is currently underway in Patna.

At a press conference at SuchnaBhawan in Patna on Wednesday, Mohammad NadimulGaffarSiddiqui, the Joint Secretary of the Disaster Management Department, mentioned that these centres would ensure faster responses during floods, cold waves, and other emergencies. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are already at the completed facilities. He added that they will soon cover the remaining districts by working with other departments.

Will Constructs food shelters in floor prone districts

Siddiqui explained that the new centres would support not just immediate rescue and relief efforts but also act as training hubs for organizations and communities. They also constructs permanent flood shelters using the chief minister’s relief fund. Of the 100 planned shelters in 10 flood-prone districts in Bihar, 96 have already been completed, with the rest expected soon.

The department has also raised financial aid for flood-affected families, increasing ex-gratia relief from Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000. In the 2025–26 financial year, about Rs 9.7 lakh families received a total of Rs 680.17 crore in payments.
