Bihar BJP chief Dilip Jaiswal has stirred up controversy by show that the Election Commission of India (ECI) verify burqa-clad voters during the upcoming Bihar Elections. He made this request during a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. “We must ensure the faces of voters, especially burqa-clad women, match their EPIC cards so that only genuine voters can cast their ballots,” Jaiswal said following the meeting.
Burqa-Clad Women Voters verification necessary in Bihar Elections
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the main opposition party in Bihar, criticized Jaiswal’s comments. RJD MP Abhay Kushwaha called it a “political conspiracy.” He stated, “The Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls has just been done. New EPIC cards with new photographs will be issued to all voters. Identifying voters is not a big issue.”
Deputy CM Supports Demand
Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha supported Jaiswal’s request, comparing it to Hindu women wearing veils. He said, “According to the Constitution, the law should be the same for everyone.” Sinha added that female officers would check the faces of women voters in Bihar Elections, and any decision by the Election Commission would be final.
