Tensions rise in North Bengal Floods areas, Jalpaiguri district, on Sunday afternoon when Khagen Murmu, the BJP’s Lok Sabha MP from Malda Uttar, and Shankar Ghosh, Siliguri MLA and BJP’s chief whip in the West Bengal Assembly, were chased and attacked by a mob while they assessed Floods damage in the area.

Eyewitnesses and BJP leaders reported that around 500 people, armed with stones, lathis, and sticks, assaulted the two leaders as they walked through the affected region around 1 pm. Their vehicle vandalized, its windows smashed, and both leaders suffered injuries. Murmu sustained severe injuries and taken to the hospital, bleeding heavily.
Murmu’s security team tried to protect him and Ghosh, successfully getting them into the car. However, the mob continued to throw stones, sticks, and even shoes at the vehicle while shouting slogans like “Go back, BJP.”
BJP MP Sukanta Majumdar also criticized the CM
Former BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar expressed similar views on social media, accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of neglecting the North Bengal Floods crisis while celebrating at the Red Road Carnival.
