BMC Orders to Demolished and Rebuilt 7 year old Mumbai's Goregaon Flyover

In a case of city planning, the BMC Orders to demolish the Veer Savarkar flyover in Goregaon — a critical course for commuters heading closer to Malad, Madh, and Marve since it opened in 2018.

Locally referred to as the MTNL Flyover, the stretch in Goregaon removed as it, per BMC. It obstruct the imminent Coastal Road 2 project if you want to join Versova with Dahisar. The circulation has irked political leaders, activists, and locals, who’ve criticised the decision, calling it a waste of public money.

The existing Savarkar flyover, built just seven years ago, has been pleasing its cause by presenting commuters with smooth road connectivity between the Radisson Hotel and Rustomjee Ozone. According to the BMC, the modern bridge demolished and replaced as part of a double-decker flyover.

Goregaon flyover demolished and rebuilt, as per BMC Orders

A BMC officer had reportedly warned about this problem with the flyover about a year ago, but the plan to clear it up is far from underway now. Local baby-kisser Deepak Thakur, a former Goregaon corporator, warned that demolishing the MTNL flyover will cause problems for main site visitors. Before the flyover constructed, it could take up to 45 minutes to cross the junction. He said traffic heading to locations like Malad, Madh, and Marve suffer once the flyover taken down. Contractors have already started surveying the place.

This demolition is just like what took place with a major section of the Bandra (West) skywalk, which become removed between 2019 and 2024 to make manner for Metro Line 2B, connecting DN Nagar to Mandale.

The Coastal Road (North), also referred to as the Versova-Dahisar Link Road (VDLR), is a 22-kilometre route that consists of floor roads, accelerated sections, stilts, a cable-stayed bridge, and a tunnel built under a creek, as per BMC Orders.
