A shocking incident occurred in Bengaluru when a Class 1 Boy fell into an open drain near his school on Friday morning, February 6. This sparked angry accusations of negligence against the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).
Class 1 Boy falls in open pit in Bengaluru
The mishap took place this morning in Govindpura, Sarvagna Nagar, right in front of a school where civic repair work was ongoing. Local residents claimed that workers left the drain uncovered during maintenance. They did not put up basic safety measures like barriers or warning signs, turning a typical sidewalk into a hidden danger.
The young boy was walking along the edge of the road on his way to school when he accidentally slipped into the open drain. Quick-thinking bystanders immediately rescued him. The school quickly informed his parents, who took him home for care. No serious injuries were reported, but the close call left everyone rattled.
Family accused BWSSB
The child’s family blamed BWSSB for the negligence and demanded accountability for putting lives at risk through poor urban maintenance. Residents shared this outrage, pointing out the ongoing dangers from open drains in busy areas, especially near schools. They called for stricter safety measures during repairs. Authorities have not yet responded officially.
No case has been filed so far. The police said there was enough space for the Class 1 Boy to walk, but in a playful mood, he went too close to the pit and attempted to jump over it, which is how he fell in. More details are still pending.
