Demolition of Romeo Lane beach shack after club fire kills 5
This demolition comes after a search for the brothers, who fled to Thailand shortly after a fire destroyed their nightclub and restaurant, Birch by Romeo Lane. The blaze occurred late Saturday night and killed 25 people.
Goa Police reported that the brothers boarded a New Delhi to Phuket IndiGo flight at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, just hours after the fire. Officers said that a lookout notice had been issued to the Bureau of Immigration. Deputy Superintendent of Police Nilesh Rane explained that the Bureau of Immigration in Mumbai confirmed that both accused took flight 6E 1073 from New Delhi to Phuket at 5:30 a.m. on December 7.
Thai authorities and India agencies work together to deport club owners
Indian agencies are now working with Thai authorities to locate the brothers in Phuket. They are seeking their deportation based on an arrest warrant to avoid a longer extradition process. Police teams visited the Luthras’ residence in North Delhi on Monday but could not find them.
The fire at Birch by Romeo Lane swept through the 300 square meter property around 11:45 p.m. on Saturday. Among the 25 victims, 20 were staff members and five were tourists, including four from a family in Delhi.
In an FIR registered at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Goa Police charged the Luthra brothers and some unnamed individuals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, endangering lives, and negligent handling of fire under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
