Congress concludes 1,300-km-long 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Patna on Monday

The Congress’ 14-day, 1,300-km-long ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ will end in Bihar’s capital Patna on Monday. Several leaders from the INDIA bloc are set to join the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. It marks the conclusion of this important political program ahead of the assembly polls in the state.

Congress leaders in ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’

Participants in the ‘Gandhi se Ambedkar’ march include Congress countryal president Mallikarjun Kharge, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, CPI(ML) Liberation general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, CPI general secretary D Raja, CPI(M) general secretary M A Baby, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, and more.

“The ‘Gandhi se Ambedkar’ procession will start at 11:15 am from the historic Gandhi Maidan. Floral tributes will be offered at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. Then, the procession travel through SP Verma Road, Dak Bunglow Crossing, Kotwali Thana, Nehru Patah, and Income Tax Roundabout, before reaching the statue of BR Ambedkar near Patna High Court. Senior opposition INDIA bloc leaders pay their respects at the statue of BR Ambedkar. Then they address a public gathering,” said Rajesh Rathod, head of the Bihar Congress media department.

Yatra Journey from 17 August to 1 September

Congress leader Pawan Khera compared the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ to a “religious pilgrimage in which people of all faiths participate.” He mentioned that while the yatra conclude in Patna on September 1, it not mark the end. But it is start of a new journey to protect democracy.

The yatra began on August 17 when Rahul Gandhi launched it from Sasaram. Its goal is to highlight the alleged attacks on the people’s right to vote through the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. The event passed through over 110 assembly constituencies in 25 of the state’s 38 districts.
