The government’s directive states that any activity disrupting the teaching and learning process strictly prohibited to maintain the decorum and dignity of educational institutions. In the official circular, the DoE noted, “It has come to notice that short videos are created on school premises for entertainment; such practices strictly prohibited during class hours.”

This move aims to humanize the classroom experience by reconnecting students with their studies, moving away from the performative aspects of social media that often compromise student safety and privacy.

Contextualizing the Digital Shift 

This regulation follows several incidents where both students and staff allegedly disrupted classroom activities in pursuit of “viral” moments. Previously, the absence of a formal policy created a grey area where entertainment content often overlapped with school time, raising concerns about discipline erosion.

By labeling this issue as “most urgent,” the Delhi government is joining a larger national discussion about how short-form video content affects the attention spans and mental health of minors.
