A man from Delhi made the internet smile by sharing how a kind auto driver let him leave without paying Rs 150. The story, titled “Kind of Heartfelt Story,” was posted on Reddit. He mentioned being at Lajpat Nagar and, while trying to book a cab, discovered his phone battery was at 4%.
Delhi Man Shares Story of Auto Driver’s Kindness
“I’ll take an auto,” he thought and flagged one down. They agreed on a fare of the meter plus Rs 20. Halfway through the ride, he realized he had no cash in his wallet. “Like, actually zero. I thought, ‘koi nahi Phone Pe haina’ (It’s okay, there’s PhonePe),” he wrote in his post on r/Delhi.
But when he arrived at his destination and tried to scan the driver’s QR code, his phone died, leaving him stranded outside his colony gate. He panicked and tried to explain, “Bhaiyya phone band hogaya, aap ruko main ghar se cash laata hoon (My phone has died, wait, I’ll get cash from home).” He expected the driver to get annoyed or believe he was trying to scam him.
Auto driver leave his pay kindly
Instead, the driver smiled and replied, “Arre koi nahi bhai, aap ghar jao. Thand hora hai (It’s okay. Go home, it’s cold).” When he insisted on running home to get the money, the driver started his auto and said, “Kabhi aur milenge toh de dena, ya kisi aur ki madad kar dena. Tension mat lo (Pay me the next time we meet, or help someone else. Don’t worry).” Then he left.
The man stood there for two minutes, feeling both guilty and uplifted. “In a city where we fight for Rs 10 change, this man let go of Rs 150 just because he saw a kid in panic. Delhi, you have your flaws, but your people, kabhi kabhi dil jeet lete hai yaar (sometimes win your heart),” he concluded.
“Some people don’t have much, yet give the most. Respect to that uncle,” a user commented. Others shared how the story lifted their spirits: “Made me smile after a hectic day. Incidents like this give us hope. God bless the auto guy.”
