Delhi Police Arrest Second Suspect in Azadpur Metro Cable Theft

Delhi Police arrested another suspect in the cable theft case at the Azadpur Metro station on Friday. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Shahid from Jahangirpuri, led officers to recover 30 meters of copper cable during his interrogation. Police have identified other accomplices and receivers. They are currently conducting raids to capture the remaining suspects and recover the stolen property.

Earlier, on March 12, someone stole a signaling cable that connected two metro stations, Majlis Park and Bhalswa Metro Stations. This theft disrupted the signaling system and caused a service disruption. Jasbir Singh, an MRS signal controller at Majlis Park, reported that about 1,000 meters of signaling cable was found missing.

Seized melted cable

A night patrol team responded quickly and found several individuals melting wire for copper in a nearby jungle. They arrested one suspect, Sheikh Safiq, also from Jahangirpuri. He was caught on the scene with about 170-180 meters of burned cable. The police seized the cable and filed an FIR at PS Azadpur Metro under sections 329(4), 329(2), 305(1), 3(5), and 331(4) of the BNS, along with sections 74(1) and 78 of the DMRC Act.
