As per the latest Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) reports, it has been come to know that 2,600 extra tickets sold on Saturday between 6 pm to 8 pm. It caused the Delhi Railway Station Stampede, news reported. The stampede took place around 10 pm when number of passengers disoriented by conflicting train announcements. It hurried the passengers towards platform 16 by a narrow staircase. It results in 18 deaths and over dozens of people injured there.
Cause of Delhi Railway Station Stampede
There are average 7,000 tickets was booked at Railway station every day. But on the incident day, there are more than 9,600 general-class tickets were sold in this period. The reports mentioned that more than 54,000 general class tickets were booked on Saturday. It causes a rush among passenger, and they move towards their platform through narrow staircases. Due to stampede, 18 people lost their lives and many of them are injured. On this, a senior official from the Ministry of Railways said, “ The crowd has been managed.”
Railway Station Incident has been averted, officials say
After the Delhi Railway Station Stampede, the official explained that, because of a rush for a dip at Triveni Sangam in Maha Kumbh, the total number of tickets sold does not reflect the real crowd. “ Due to Kumbh, Indian railways is not checking for tickets on various key lines. The official said,” There is always rush, people fight to even get place to stand in train. In such a situation, it is tough to check if passengers in general class have tickets or not.”
The UTS ticket figure is not reflective, but the actual crowd has been much more, the officials said. They also added further that incident may prevented if railway authority has anticipated the crowd on basis of high number of tickets booked in that 2 hours.
