In Kolkata, protests broke out as Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar began a three-day visit to the state. Protesters, led by Trinamool Congress MLA Tapas Chatterjee, took to the streets in opposition to the special intensive revision of electoral rolls.

Kumar is in West Bengal for a meeting with the commission to assess preparations for the upcoming assembly elections. The protests prompted a large deployment of security personnel to maintain order along the route from Kolkata Airport to Kumar’s hotel.
Those protesting accused the CEC of being anti-democratic, while Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called Kumar a “stooge” of the BJP. These events highlight the increasing political tension in the region.
