Bengaluru’s heaviest spell of rain this year claimed three lives in a single day. Two of the deaths happens in BTM Layout on Monday evening, in which a 12-year old boy and a 63 old man electrocuted whilst looking to clear waterlogging in their Bangalore flooded apartment complex. Earlier, a 35-year-old woman housekeeper died in Whitefield after a compound wall collapsed following heavy rains.
Heavy Rain led Bangalore flooded apartment
The town witnessed over six hours of heavy rain at the intervening nights of Sunday and Monday. The extreme rainfall led to severe waterlogging, inundating several roads, basements and coffee-lying areas across the town. The incident happened at an apartment around 6 PM on Monday. The victims identified as Manmohan Kamath (63), a resident of the constructing, and Dinesh (12), the son of Bharat, a Nepali national hired as a employee at the apartment complex. Both victims electrocuted whilst trying to drain out the stagnant rainwater the usage of an electric motor.
Electrocution Claims 2 Lives
“Kamath had delivered a motor from outdoor and related it to a power source to pump out water from the cellar. During this method, he suffered an electric shock in Bangalore flooded apartment because of a short circuit and died,” stated Sarah Fathima, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South East Division. “Dinesh, who was helping him, also suffered an electric shock and died immediate,” she said.
Both our bodies were sent to St John’s Hospital for postmortem testing. On Monday night, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar stated the government had identified 210 flood-prone regions in the town. “Of those, we have resolved flooding problems in 166 areas, around 70%. Work is ongoing in 24 extra places, and the last 20 might be taken up soon,” he said.
