A big search operation was conducts at the Colombo airport this noon after a tip-off from India that 6 suspects believed to be concerned in the Pahalgam terror attack had reached Sri Lanka on board a flight from Chennai.
Sri Lankan Airlines said flight UL122 was subjected to a comprehensive safety search upon arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport at 11:59 am. The Indian government had alerted Sri Lanka that six Pahalgam suspects had been onboard the flight, said a police spokesperson. The suspects are believed to have taken a Sri Lankan Airlines flight to Colombo, he said.
Colombo airport search operation over suspects
Local reports advise the Sri Lanka Police, Sri Lanka Air Force, and airport safety systems to mutually conducts search operation. But no suspect was observed. The airline stated it obtained an alert from the Chennai Area Control Centre. Upon its arrival in Colombo, the aircraft was well inspected and eventually cleared for similar operations, stated Sri Lankan Airlines.
At least 26 civilians, including a Nepalese traveler and a pony ride operator, were massacred by terrorists with Pakistan links on the scenic Baisaran meadow of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22.
India actions against Pakistan
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), the country’s deadly anti-terror sector, has been tasked with the Colombo airport search operation team into the attack. India take action against Pakistan and suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, which allowed Delhi to stop or divert water from the Indus River system from flowing toward Pakistan, choking a major source of water supply in country.
It has also banned imports and incoming parcels from Pakistan. Pakistani ships were barred from docking at Indian ports. India has also canceled the visas of Pakistani nationals. Those living in India were given a deadline of Tuesday to leave Indian soil.
