Earnings later, justice first: Food delivery partners join largest protest rally in Kolkata against RG Kar incident

Earnings later, justice first: Food delivery partners join largest protest rally in Kolkata against RG Kar incident

A large number of food delivery partners from Swiggy, Zepto, Zomato and Blinkit organized the largest protest rally in Kolkata on September 5. The rally was organised following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College two days back. Protesters were also joined by food delivery partners seeking justice for the victim and responsibility from authorities.

They (the food delivery partners) protested in a big way at the protest rally held under the banner of Kolkata. The protest was not in their interest – Despite daily-based earnings on delivering food, they showed determination to raise voices for the victims. That unity illustrates the public’s frustration with concerned parties for mishandling the case.

Victim’s parents join protest rally in Kolkata, tell that police tried vanishing the case

Even the parents of one deceased trainee doctor took part. It resulted in intense emotion as people took to social media to share pictures and videos from the rally. The parents told reporters that:

“We will have to go; what else can we do? Things are happening very slowly; we can’t tolerate it. We have a lot of questions, and we will ask the police the same.”

One of the parents also said that police tried to dismiss and vanish the case by quickly cremating the body of their daughter.

West Bengal Governor CV also participated by switching off the lights at Raj Bhavan in Kolkata and lighting a candle. Also, delivery partners held a candlelight vigil in different areas such as Shyam Bazaar and RG Kar Medical College, waving the national flag.

The protest rally in Kolkata also included top political leaders. BJP affiliates also took part in a rally and bolstered the demands for justice. While food delivery partners protested in Kolkata, doctors organised candlelight vigils and had similar protests in Delhi. As a result of the rising number of rape cases in India, the state has passed ‘death penalty’ punishment law for rapists.
