A group of government officers, including police personnel, has shown strong discontent after Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan allegedly left out Dr. B.R. Ambedkar name during his speech at a Republic Day parade, while mentioning other national leaders.
This omission has created anger among the services, especially among officers who view it as an insult to the creator of the Constitution on a day that celebrates its adoption.
Minister forget Ambedkar name in his republic day speech
The issue gained attention when a police officer expressed her discontent in a social media post in Marathi, criticizing the omission and connecting it to constitutional values and democratic duties. She called for the minister to apologize for his actions.
“We have taken an oath to uphold Babasaheb’s Constitution. We honor that oath until our last breath,” a police official said in Marathi. She added that while disciplinary action for speaking to the media understandable, punishing someone for mentioning Ambedkar’s name accepted.
“But suspending me for raising Babasaheb Ambedkar’s name is something I cannot accept. I cannot work in a system where mentioning Babasaheb’s name is treated as a crime,” she said.
How does Minister Defends?
The officer emphasized that democracy, constitutional rights, and the power of public officials come from Ambedkar work. “You too have your position because of the Constitution. Even a child today knows what constitutional rights are,” the female officer said.
The feelings expressed in the post showcase a broader concern within the services, particularly among those who believe Ambedkar’s contributions clearly recognized on Republic Day. So far, there has been no official comment from Minister Girish Mahajan regarding the allegations or the call for an apology.
