One of the students who witnessed the school building collapse in Jhalawar in Rajasthan has said that she flagged to her teacher that gravel falling from the roof, but “not noted”.
Seven childrens killed and 27 others injured while a portion in their government school building collapsed on Friday, minutes before the morning meeting. The victims identified as Payal (12), Priyanka (12), Kundan (12), Harish (8), Kartik and a brother and sister, Meena (12) and Kanha (6).

“When we reached school, the teacher requested us to attend in the school room for morning prayers. That time, gravel falling from the roof. A student instantly informed the teacher, who said, ‘Nothing was falling.’ The roof later collapsed. I was able to escape, however others have been trapped,” a student said.
Another student said the teacher busy in eating ‘poha’, a staple breakfast snack, while the roof collapsed. They also said that they had flagged the issue, but no action was taken.
5 Teachers Suspended
Jhalawar collector Ajay Singh, however, said the district administration recently informed the school department to offer records about any dilapidated school building and said that it not figure in the list. Five teachers of school suspended.
CM Bhajanlal Sharma held a high-stage meeting after the incident. He said he instructed officers to ensure that no school building should be in a dilapidated situation.
President Droupadi Murmu and PM Modi condoled the deaths. “The news of the collapse of a school roof in Jhalawar, Rajasthan, resulting in the dying and harm of several students, is extraordinarily tragic. I pray that God offers strength to the grieving families to bear this pain,” President Murmu said.
