A woman was killed, and four of her family members are feared buried after a Himachal landslide hit a village in Kullu district on Monday night. The incident occurred around 1:30 am when the landslide destroyed two houses in Sharmani village in Kullu’s Nirmand. Police and local officials confirmed that five family members were trapped in the debris.
The body of Baresti Devi, the wife of Shiv Ram, was recovered from the rubble. Four others, Chunni Lal, Anju, Jagrati, and Pupesh, are still missing. Search operations starts immediately, and rescue efforts continue.
3 injured in Himachal landslide
Three people were injured in the incident. They have been identified as Dharmdas, his wife Kala Devi, and Shiv Ram. Locals said Shiv Ram had been sleeping in the courtyard, which allowed him to escape, though he suffered serious injuries. Villagers helped rush all three to Nirmand hospital.
Bhoga Ram, the head of the local village council, stated that as soon as news of the landslide spread, he and other villagers arrived at the site around 2 am to begin relief and rescue work. Officials were notified shortly after.
