As consumers across India report a shortage of LPG cylinders, Hardeep Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, assured that there is lot of supply. He informed the Lok Sabha that nearly 45 % of India’s crude imports traveled through the Hormuz route.
He repeated his earlier message that India’s crude supply position is secure. He said that the volume secured exceeds what Hormuz could have delivered.
Government Assures Adequate LPG Supply
He said that India has secured a significant volume that surpasses what the disrupted Hormuz route provided during the same period.
The minister mentioned that in the past five days, LPG production in the country has increased by 28 %. It is due to the refinery directive, and further purchases are ongoing.
Hormuz Route Earlier Key for Crude Imports
60% of the country’s LPG needs imported from Gulf nations, including Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, while 40 % produced domestically. Puri informed the House that procurement actively expanded. Cargoes secured from the US, Norway, Algeria, Canada, and Russia, in addition to Gulf sources.
He also noted that sourcing from non-Hormuz routes risen to about 70 % of crude imports, up from 55 % before the conflict began.
