The footage shows Singh smoking openly while surrounded by supporters and police officers at Patna’s IGIMS hospital. The jailed politician was at the hospital from the Beur lockup for a regular checkup when this incident occurred. The clip drawn heavy criticism because smoking is banned in hospitals. The presence of police guards who did not step in raises concerns about special treatment for the imprisoned leader.

The video of Anant Singh has triggered a heated political debate in Bihar. The opposition, led by the RJD, is using this video to criticize the Nitish Kumar government. Ejaz Ahmad, a spokesperson for the RashtriyaJanata Dal (RJD), highlighted the incident to question the current security measures in the state.
He expressed worries about the apparent breakdown of law and order in Bihar, asking why a prisoner in judicial custody could enjoy such freedoms while under police watch. Ahmad suggested that members of the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) often flout the law, indicating that the video reflects a deeper disrespect for rules among the ruling coalition.
