Karnataka Lokayukta officials seized Rs 1.70 crore in cash from the flat of a friend of a senior government engineer during raids related to a disproportionate assets case, officials reported on Thursday.

The searches focused on H M Janardhana, Superintendent Engineer in the Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society. A case has filed against him at the Bengaluru Rural Lokayukta Police Station for allegedly acquiring assets beyond his known income sources.
“In connection with the case against Janardhana, searches took place at six locations. During the search, Rs 1.70 crore in cash found in the flat of his friend, SujayShetty,” a Lokayukta official said.
Janardhana owns a plot, three houses, 34 acres of agricultural land, gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 7.08 lakh, vehicles worth Rs 20 lakh, and other valuables worth Rs 60 lakh. The total value of his assets estimated at Rs 2.57 crore.
Raids at 29 more locations
The official noted that the search operation is ongoing, and further details are verified. Karnataka Lokayukta teams conducted simultaneous raids at 29 locations linked to four government officers across Karnataka, including in Bengaluru, Davangere, and Dharwad. The raids uncovered assets worth a total of Rs 23.76 crore.
Besides Janardhana, the officers investigated include Arjun R H, Assistant Executive Engineer (Civil) at BESCOM in Davangere; Purushotham Das Hegade, Executive Engineer at the Public Works Department; and Somalingappa Fakkirappa Siddanagoudar, Survey Supervisor at the Assistant Director of Land Records’ Office in Dharwad.
